Fashion / John Varvatos
Detroit-born John Varvatos has always loved Motor City rock and roll with designs often inspired by rock icons such as Iggy Pop and Alice Cooper, who are also customers. Bringing a musical sensibility to his fashion vision, he creates a casual-cool suited look rather than a leather pant one, and often says he creates masculine clothes for men who don’t want to look like fashion victims. Varvatos started with his ‘black-less’ collection, comprising of rumpled and tailored menswear. The collection received critical acclaim and a CFDA newcomer award, and led to a collaboration with Converse for whome he created lace less sneakers. John Varvatos now comprises menswear, womenswear, a line of ready-to-wear for Converse, and the diffusion label John Varvatos Star USA.
